7 Steps to Saving
It’s far easier to spend than to save in today’s world. But by taking some proactive steps today, you can feel the freedom and independence that comes with building a savings:

1. Set a goal.
   Identifying a dollar amount is the first step to setting a goal. It is recommended that individuals have at least six months of reserves – in case they lost a job or could not work. Share your goal with others on Plaza's Facebook Page.
2. Set a timeline.
   Once you have the desired amount on paper, use a calculator to take into account, inflation, interest and monthly contributions and determine how long it will take you to reach your savings goal.
3. Set aside some cash regularly.
   Set up direct deposit and designate a portion of your paycheck to go to savings every pay period. Whether it’s $3 or $300, it will help set you on a path to storing up savings.
4. Uncover some extra cash.

5. Coupons, coupons, coupons.
   Extreme couponing has become quite the craze. Certainly it pays, but we do not expect you to take it to that level. By simply using coupons you receive at the checkout counter, Sunday’s newspaper or in the products you buy, you can start saving. The internet makes this easy. The next time you are looking to go out to dinner or buy a product, search to see if you can find a coupon. See coupon hotspots and share yours on Plaza's Facebook Page.
6. Collect coins.
   Capture that 75 cents you received from buying your last latte or other beverage of choice. Instead of allowing them to fall to the bottom of your pocket or purse and eventually vanish, put every coin you receive into a container. It also is a great way to engage children. 7. Purge for a price.
