Recent Security Breaches:

In the last year, several large retailers have had security breaches that have impacted our clients’ debit cards.

If your Plaza Park Bank (PPB) Debit Card is on a compromised card list, we will be contacting you to recommend you cancel your current card and receive a new card.  While banks are not required to be proactive about these types of security breaches, PPB believes your security is a priority. When we receive new lists of potentially compromised cards, we do our best to reach out to our clients as soon as possible.  If you have not received a call about a compromised card but are concerned that your name may be on the compromised list, please feel free to call us at 320-252-4200.

A few safety tips for everyone to keep in mind:

  • No one from PPB will ever call you to “reset your PIN”; if you get a call like that please do not give out any information and please call PPB to alert us.
  • If you’re ever unsure if it is us calling you ask for the employee’s name, hang up and call the bank back (320-252-4200). This will ensure you are talking to a PPB employee.
  • Monitor your account transactions and activity often and be sure to call us with any questions or concerns.

Online Privacy & Security

Identity Theft Protection: Instances of identity theft and fraud are increasing across the United States. The best line of defense is to educate yourself. The Federal Trade Commission has a great website where you can learn more about identity theft, how to prevent it and what to do if it happens to you (including sample form letters).

Staying Safe Online: Plaza Park Bank will never send you an email or text asking for your account or social security numbers. Please report these inquiries to Plaza Park Bank so we can help other clients avoid the scams. Learn more about how to avoid scams, protect your children online, and secure your computer at OnGuardOnline.gov.

Tips to Stay Safe Online:

  • Change your Online Banking password every 90 days and do not give your password out to anyone else.
  • When banking or paying credit cards online, avoid passwords that include personal information, such as mother’s maiden name or date of birth. Instead, use something unique that only you know.
  • Never give out personal information over the phone, through the mail, or on the internet unless you’ve initiated the contact and are sure you know you are dealing with a legitimate organization.
  • If you receive an email asking for personal information, do not hit the “reply” button or click on any website link in the email. Instead, go directly to the sender’s website by typing the sender’s website address in your browser.
  • Consider using one credit card for all of your online purchases for monitoring purposes. Also, credit cards put you (the consumer) at less risk than your personal debit card in the case of fraud.
